We are well aware that Muharram, the first month of Islamic Calendar, is around the corner. We also know the importance of this month in our Islamic Society. This month has separate sanctified importance.
What Month of Muharram Means?
The word “Muharram” is actually an Arabic word, which means “forbidden.” We, being Muslims, believe that this month is not meant for celebrations; instead, it is the month of Ashura.
Why Muharram is important?
The month is meant for mourning over the martyrdom of our beloved family of Holy Prophet (S.A.W)T. This is the sole reason why fashion and celebrations are usually discouraged in the month of Muharram.
However, people have still found ways to relate this mournful month of Muharram with few trends. Behaviors, and things that have now become a trend.
This includes different behaviors, such as wearing only black color. A majority of people like to wear Black, particularly those who belong to the Shia community.
Is Black the Muharram Trend?
Black is a decent color that gives a seriously sophisticated look to a person. It is used to signify sorrow, sadness, despair, and sometimes even regret.
Somepeople love wearing black no matter how they’re feeling, but other’s mostly relate black color to their deep feelings of dejection and suffering.
Clothing brands have also been following this trend for quite a time now. They have been creating out fashion lines usually based on strong monotone colors. By this, they try to show their dedication to the month of Muharram.
It has become a rather trendy fashion to showcase oneself on a ramp wearing darker colors in a “Black” theme. You can easily search a number of such fashion weeks and shows on internet.
Beneficial Black And White Fashion
All popular successful designers target events and beliefs of people to gain profits. They launch their monotone collections in the month of August that is sometime after Eid ul Azha and before Muharram.
This is because they know it is the peak time when they’ll easily be able to sell maximum black and white dresses.
This clearly shows how the designers are profiting themselves in maximum, using their consumer’s beliefs and values as a basic motive.
Is it the right thing to do?
This can’t be judged to be a crime, yet it is immoral in the way of being disrespectful. But all this has been happening for ages, which is why no one seems to find it offensive now.
It’s up to you if you want to morally correct yourself, don’t follow the trend. Don’t buy any designer dresses but wear simple clothing instead.
