PM contacts Turkish President, vows to continue efforts for Afghan peace

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan during a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that intra-Afghan talks are a historic opportunity for Afghan peace. Pakistan will continue to work for Afghan peace.

According to details, Prime Minister Imran Khan and the Turkish President had a telephone conversation, during which issues of mutual interest were discussed.

And it has been agreed to increase cooperation in all areas. During the telephone conversation between the two leaders, congratulatory messages were exchanged on the occasion of Ramadan. The Prime Minister praised Turkey’s role in the Afghan peace process.

The Pak-Turkish leadership agreed to increase high-level exchanges to transform bilateral relations into a strategic economic partnership. During the telephone call, Prime Minister Imran Khan stressed the importance of a political solution after the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan and said that Pakistan has fully supported and assisted the US-Taliban peace agreement, intra-Afghan talks. We will continue our efforts for lasting peace in Afghanistan.

He said that the intra-Afghan dialogue was a historic opportunity and the Afghan leadership should take advantage of this opportunity for a broad-based and comprehensive political settlement.

It may be recalled that the two leaders had earlier held a telephone conversation in October last year, in which Imran Khan expressed his regret over the loss of precious lives due to the earthquake in Turkey. The two leaders also discussed the attack on a madrassa in Peshawar. The Prime Minister said that the people of Pakistan stand with their Turkish brothers and sisters in their hour of need and pray for the speedy recovery of those affected by the natural calamity.

Prime Minister Imran Khan informed the Turkish President that the attack on the madrassa in Peshawar was carried out by the enemies of Pakistan.

During the telephone conversation, the Prime Minister and the Turkish President also discussed the growing incidence of Islamophobia in Europe. In the wake of growing Islamophobia, Prime Minister Imran Khan assured the Turkish president that the Muslim world must unite against such incidents against Muslims.
