Kuwait: The Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber has passed away due to a long illness
According to the Arab News Agency, the Emir of the of the Gulf state Kuwait Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber passed away in the United States at the age of 91, a Kuwaiti state broadcaster announced the death of the Emir of Kuwait.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad moved to the United States for treatment in July this year, after which he underwent surgery in Kuwait.
The Arab News Agency says the Kuwaiti flag will remain in the tunnel until the funeral of the Emir of Kuwait.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad assumed the post of Emir of the oil-rich Arab state of Kuwait in 2006, during a 50-year state affairs and foreign policy.
Al-Sabah ruled the Gulf of Kuwait for 260 years. Kuwait is one of only six countries in the world with large oil reserves.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad served as Kuwaiti Foreign Minister from 1963 to 1991, and in 1993 he was re-appointed as Kuwaiti Foreign Minister, a position he held until 2003.
